Though my brother would never use these words, to describe himself, Robert Fripp is a legendary guitarist. In fact, he’s one of Rolling Stone’s “100 Greatest Guitarists” of all time.
Speakers can improve their presentations by paying close attention to one element of delivery that’s second nature to professional musicians, timing. Robert suggests that speakers think about rhythm and tempo in this way:
Rhythm is when you are speaking AND when you are not.
Tempo is the speed at which your audience can take in what you are saying to them.
Your message is not simply conveyed by your words, but also by the spaces between them. A pause allows your listeners to stay engaged and makes it possible for them to follow what comes next.

What people say about Robert Fripp’s spoken word:
“Robert Fripp’s presentation was as insightful as it was sensationally delivered. Our opening general sessions of 1,200 audience members were enraptured by the fascinating stories of his most amazing career in the music industry. Many of our APA members have long admired King Crimson and Fripp’s prowess as one of the best guitarists of all time.
However, it didn’t matter that he’s a famous musician. The wisdom he shared has direct parallels to every aspect of life and growth potential. His humble eloquence makes his wisdom so easy for everyone to get value. His grip on the audience was as tight as his hold on his guitar pick!”
